Suzanne Morphew’s body – missing since May of last year — has still not been located, but District Attorney Linda Stanley said Wednesday her office and investigators had gathered enough evidence to arrest Barry Morphew on charges of first-degree murder after deliberation, tampering with physical evidence and attempt to influence a public servant, according to authorities.
A judge told Morphew during the hearing that he would be able to see his two daughters, who were present in the courtroom for the hearing, as long as his contact with them remains civil.
His next hearing has been scheduled for May 27 at 4 p.m. local time.

During a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Stanley said the investigation is ongoing and Barry Morphew’s arrest affidavit would remain sealed. Investigators have largely kept quiet regarding the investigation, which they said attributed to the successful Wednesday morning arrest.
Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said law enforcement did not anticipate additional arrests. Officials would not provide more information regarding a suspected cause or motive in Suzanne Morphew’s death and said Barry Morphew asked for a lawyer when investigators began questioning him.
