DC residents speak out after night of brazen shootings: 'Definitely an increase in violence'

WASHINGTON – D.C. residents say they are “seeing a lot of violence,” and crime is “getting worse” after a string of brazen shootings.  

According to the crime there were four unrelated shootings across Washington Dec. 15 in a span of 90 minutes that led to one death and four injuries.

“There’s been a lot of like smash and grabs I’ve noticed with cars, lots of broken windows,” according to another U Street resident named Holly. “And a shooting not far from where we live, just like a couple of weeks ago.

“I think a lot of our elected officials are not doing enough. We are seeing a lot of violence, whether it’s gun violence, whether it is robberies, whether it’s, you know, people breaking into car windows.”

Despite those grim statistics, some who live in the area had no complaints about crime” target=”_blank”>crime< 

“People need to be able to police their own community,” Curtis added. “The mayor don’t live here. The police don’t live here. How much skin are you willing to put in the game?”
